Niangara is in the district of Haut-Uele, Congo. In 2009 rebels attacked surrounding villages, causing most of its population to flee to nearby Niangara, which was inundated with more than 10, 000 displaced people. As a result of this crisis, MSF Belgium called for a state of emergency to be declared and requested humanitarian assistance. This powerful piece was used by MSF to raise awareness of the situation worldwide and to raise funds for humanitarian aid.
